Amazon Prime Day 2024 was the biggest Prime Day ever. According to Amazon, “millions more Prime members shopped the two-day shopping event compared to Prime Day 2023.”
The great news for small and medium-sized businesses is that “independent sellers on Amazon sold more than 200 million items” during Prime Day.
However, that’s only good news if your business is prepared to handle the influx of orders during non-seasonal shopping events.
We know Prime Day comes every year (twice!), but if your brand is still caught off guard by the increase in order volume, then you’re ready for a change.
One example of Prime Day success in 2023 was the cookware company Caraway. The popular New York-based retailer reported not only 300% sales growth between Prime Day 2022 and 2023 but also an average daily sales surge of more than 18x on the first day of Prime Day 2023.
Now, imagine if Caraway didn’t anticipate Prime Day seasonality. Running out of stock due to a lack of inventory would cost their business thousands in lost sales.
Caraway couldn’t afford to miss out—and neither can your brand.
And while Amazon didn’t specify how much it made during Prime Day 2024, it did report that it was “Amazon’s biggest Prime Day shopping event ever, with record sales and more items sold during the two-day event than any previous Prime Day event.”
How much bigger will Prime Day(s) be in 2025?
You need inventory management software that can actually capture your seasonality. If shopping days outside the holiday season are a crucial part of your sales calendar, you’re ready for an inventory partner who can customize sales velocities to pinpoint seasonality and trends based on your data.
If your brand has its own “mid-year holiday” where sales increase (whether Prime Day or something unique), you need highly accurate forecasting for precise demand planning.
